Praja Rajyam Party leaders today complained to the Election Commission over a recent attack on party leaders and workers allegedly by the Congress workers in the native town of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. A delegation of PRP leaders led by former Union minister P Shivshanker met Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy and submitted a memorandum demanding free and fair elections in the wake of the alleged attack on party workers at Pulivendula in Cuddapah district.
The delegation alleged that the ruling Congress was trying to prevent PRP workers from reaching out to the people through acts of terror, way of violence, physical assaults and verbal insults.
“Even our women leaders are not spared of this terror — in fact, they are being particularly targeted, because it is expected that they will be more susceptible to fear,’’ they said.
They claimed that the Congress Government in the State has concluded that terror is the only way to fight in the forthcoming elections and not democratic electoral process.
It may be recalled that a group of miscreants burnt the PRP flags, attacked its workers with sticks and damaged two cars at Pulivendula, ahead of Chiranjeevi’s road show in the town.
