Prajarajyam Party spokesperson Dr Mitra was in a piquant situation on Friday when party president Chiranjeevi asked him in a lighter vein whether he was still with the party.
Chiranjeevi’s spontaneous question, keeping in view a spate of resignations from the party including that of Parakala Prabhakar, at a press conference left Mitra pale-faced while media persons and others present there burst into laughter.
The spokesperson, however, repeatedly said he was very much with the PRP.
Meanwhile, to create awareness on the party’s election symbol rail engine, Chiranjeevi hired a train with 15 bogies for three days.
Addressing the press conference, he said that a train usually has several bogies to suit a cross-section of society. “Our rail engine is symbolic of the party’s social justice plank, wherein a cross-section of people will be helped to reach their respective destinations according to their wishes,” he said.
The chartered train with a slogan `Praja Rail Yatra’ would start from Secunderabad on Saturday carrying his actor son Ram Charan Teja and nephew Allu Arjun, TV stars and party functionaries and reach Renugunta.
The PRP president said he would be accompanied by Yuva Rajyam president Pavan Kalyan till Kazipet on Saturday before both disembark to resume their respective tours. He said they have taken necessary permission from the Election Commission to start the rail yatra.
The train, which is scheduled to leave Secunderabad at 7.30 am, would stop at Kazipet, Warangal, Mahbubabad, Khammam, Madhira, Vijayawada, Nuzvid, Eluru, Tadepalligudem and Nidadavolu at 10.25 pm for interacting with the local public. On Sunday, it would reach Duvvada at 3 am, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam Road, Chipurupalli, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Duvvada, Anakapalli, Tuni, Annavaram, Pitapuram, Samarlakota, Dwarapudi and Rajahmundry. On Monday, it cover Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali, Nidubrolu, Bapatla, Chirala, Ongole, Singarayakonda, Kavali, Nellore, Gudur, Venkatagiri, Srikalahasti and Renigunta at 9 pm and resume the return journey.
He clarified that Ram Charan Teja and Allu Arjun had taken the plunge into electioneering bowing to the pressure from candidates and well-wishers.
Responding to queries on the allegations by outgoing PRP spokesperson Parkal Prabhakar, he said the issue was too trivial for him to respond. “Please understand. The issue is too small for me to react. I urge you not to have a macro view of these small developments. This will convey a wrong signal to the people,” he said and added that PRP was a `kalpavruksham’ (a tree that fulfills wishes).
He, however, warned of a backlash from party workers if the campaign to tarnish Praja Rajyam was not stopped immediately. “There was no sale of tickets as is being alleged in certain quarters. Everything was done in a transparent way. People behind this campaign must stop this right away. Else, they will be the losers. People will teach them a lesson,” he said.
The PRP chief admitted that there was dissatisfaction among workers who did secure a ticket. “There were 20 aspirants for each seat. But, I am extending all support to them by counselling them on phone, whenever and wherever possible,” he said and added “Vachche vallaki welcome, velle vallaki farwell” (I welcome all those keen to board my train and bid farewell to those who want to disembark).
Chiranjeevi made light of the poll surveys by a national TV channel that predicted a hung assembly in the ensuing elections. “I do not believe in surveys, but I am sure of a convincing win for the party,” he said.
