A penumbral Lunar eclipse, Chandra Grahan, will take place on July 07, 2009. Hindu Panchangs and Astrologers have only sparingly mentioned about the Grahan and most of the traditional Hindu calendars have ignored it. The Grahan has no major impact on any zodiac signs. Therefore no major predictions have been given regarding the Chandra Grahan.
The Grahan will begin at 02:07 PM and end at 04:09 PM as per Indian Standard Time. Please remember that this Grahan is not visible in India and takes place in North America and South America and is only of academic interest. It is not visible even in these regions.
As per Hindu Astrology the Grahan takes place in the Ashada Month. The corresponding Tamil month is Aani.

Chandra Grahan in July 2009 – Chandragrahan – Lunar Eclipse
Chandra Grahan, a penumbral lunar eclipse, will take place on July 7, 2009. According to NASA, the Chandra Grahan will not be visible to the naked eye and will take place at moon rise in parts of Australia and at moon set in parts of Canada, United States, the Caribbean Islands and South America. The grahan will take place from 08:37 (UT) to 10:39 (UT) UT = universal time. The corresponding India time of the Grahan is from 1407 hrs to 1609 hrs on July 7th, 2009. Please note that it is not visible in India.

It must be noted that there is Total Solar Eclipse – Purna Surya Grahan on July 22, 2009 and this is visible in India.

Most of the Hindu traditional calendars have not given any importance to the Chandra Grahan on July 7, 2009. This is because it is not visible to the naked eye and is only of academic interest.
Usually during a Chandra Grahan, a fast (Upvaas) is observed by certain communities in Hindu religion. The fast begins about 9 hours before the beginning of Chandra Grahan.
People also take a bath in cold water and chant mantras dedicated to Lord Vishnu or Shiva like the Ashtakshara Mantra or Mrityunjaya Mantra. This is done whenever Surya and Chandra are under the influence of Rahu.
But there is no need to observe any rituals during this Chandra Grahan as it is not of importance.

Lunar Eclipse July 2009 – Not Visible in India
A penumbral lunar eclipse will take place on July 7, 2009. The information provided by NASA suggests that the lunar eclipse is not visible in India, Middle East (Dubai) and Southeast Asia. The lunar eclipse on July 7, 2009 is not visible to the naked eye and will take place at moon rise in parts of Australia and New Zealand and at moon set in parts of Canada, United States, the Caribbean Islands and South America.
There eclipse is not visible in India but for those who are particualr to know the corresponding India time it is from 02:07 PM to 04:09 PM.

According to NASA
July’s penumbral eclipse is only of academic interest since the magnitude is just 0.156. Although the Moon will be above the horizon from most of Canada the eclipse is so minor as to be completely invisible to the naked eye. The eclipse will take place from 08:37:51 GMT to 10:39:20 GMT.
Most of the Hindu traditional calendars have ignored the Lunar Eclipse on July 7, 2009. It is of not great importance and devout Hindus need not observe any Vrata or perform any austerities.
